Job Listing Suggests BioShock Sequel Could Be an Immersive Sim with Open World Elements
A job listing posted by Cloud Chamber, newly formed developers of the recently confirmed BioShock sequel, strongly hints that the upcoming title could feature open world environments with optional content and some degree of systemic gameplay.
It's important to bear in mind that BioShock 4 is in early development, so any decisions made about the game at this stage are subject to change. With that said, several key phrases in the listing describe the world as "rich and dynamic" and intended to be "populated with memorable experiences that complement the game's main story".
The job description goes on to communicate that BioShock 4 will have a "richly interactive world that feels inhabited and genuine". It will also play host to a "compelling systemic environment that players are hungry to explore".
If all of these descriptors hold true, it sounds like the next BioShock will be drinking from the immersive sim fountain with its "systemic environments". Fitting, considering that the series began as a spiritual successor to System Shock, one of the original immersive sims. An open world, or at least some level of openness, is suggested too with its mention of exploration and content that will complement the main story.
No release date has been set for the next BioShock game, although estimates place it at 2022 or 2023.
