Kickstarter hopefuls: Eco- A Global Survival game
The voxel style of games is nothing to boast about, we have a saturation of games that do a Minecraft like look in the market as it is. However game mechanics will make people look past the art style in many cases. Some games that are decently received can include voxel games like trove.
Another game that may soon become a unique voxel experience is Eco. While this game has crafting, crafting is not so simple as dragging items together. Gathering resources may eventually get you killed in this game as well.
While Eco in a simpler description is a survival crafting game. This is also a game where resources will eventually run out. You may eventually run out of ways to produce food, to research new technology, or you may very well pollute your environment to where your world becomes uninhabitable for life.
So while this game has no set goal, its the players job to create a world where humans and resources live in harmony, or if you want to look at it another way, you can see how far you can push the environment before it pushes back.
Aside from people ending their own worlds, events can happen such as meteors falling from the sky where you must invent new technologies to stop it, droughts may came to where you will need to carefully conserve food and water.
Building is also a very complex task in this game, as said by the Kick starter page, "Resources must be harvested (wood cutting, masonry), processed (wood working), transported (animal labor), and constructed (carpentry, construction). It will not be possible for one player to specialize in all the skills necessary to build in Eco, collaboration is required."
Eco may very well be a game that gives a non heavy handed approach to environmental protection, and it may be a fun game with friends as long as you don't have that one jerk who would hunt all the elks to extinction.
