Lara Croft Returns with Two New Tomb Raider Games

It's been many years since the latest entry into Crystal Dynamics' Tomb Raider, as Shadow of the Tomb Raider marked the ending of the remake trilogy started with the first game in 2013. After Square Enix sold the developer off (alongside the IP) to Embracer Group, it seemed like we wouldn't be hearing about a new entry for a long time.

And wait, we did. After a long wait to hear about the future of the Tomb Raider franchise, Crystal Dynamics has announced two new games joining the remakes: Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis and Tomb Raider: Catalyst, both of which were shown off and announced during the 2025 Game of the Year Awards.

The titles are a return to classic for Lara Croft, finding a way to merge the latest remake trilogy with the first games that started the whole franchise. Crystal Dynamics seems to be taking a page from CAPCOM's Resident Evil franchise, beginning with remakes to introduce players to the world and characters, but moving forward with a brand-new experience in the form of Tomb Raider: Catalyst.

Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis takes the highlight with the longer trailer showcasing a mix of pre-alpha in-game footage and cinematics. Fans are enthusiastic about the return to classic-style Lara, double-wielding guns and her typical tank-top look. It's an in-depth approach to modern-day Tomb Raider that might appease both fans of the remake trilogy and the originals, though only time will tell how it will perform.

Meanwhile, Crystal Dynamics shared a teaser trailer for Tomb Raider: Catalyst, which is purely CGIthis new announcement was received with a bit more turmoil. Fans aren't a big fan of Lara's ever-changing looks, and even more so, there's some dissent between remake lovers and those who are excited to see the franchise return to classic roots.

Both titles are set to release a year apart, with no narrower release date just yet. Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis will launch in 2026 developed by Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog and published by Amazon Game Studios for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows PC via Steam.

Meanwhile, Tomb Raider: Catalyst is set to launch in 2027 on the same consoles.
