As SteamOS is a fork of Debian 7.1 and Gabe has said he wants all 2500 Steam store titles on Linux as part of a hedging strategy for the Steam Machine this is not too surprising a move really, but the fact that the Steam key given out is for all past and future Valve titles means if and/or when Half Life 3 is released people who are able to contribute to the codebase for Debian Linux get it as a freebie.
