A new strategy game being developed by Auroch Digital, the developers behind Plague Inc: Evolved, in conjunction with the United Kingdom Space Agency challenges the player to head up the next step in the evolution of civilization by successfully staging a colonization effort to Mars. The game is called Mars Horizon and it's due out late this year for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
Mars Horizon puts players in charge of a space agency of either Europe, Russia, or the United States, in a decades-long campaign to put humanity on the red planet. Thanks to the developers' collaboration with the UK Space Agency, the game is rooted in actual science and engineering, and players must balance various gameplay types, including rocket-building, mission control, and space agency management.
"With each game an alternate history begins to be shaped and guided by the player's actions, building iconic rockets, probes, and satellites that transmit crucial scientific data back to your customisable Earth HQ," reads a press release from Auroch Digital, "all the while researching, investing in, and bolstering your space flight capabilities."
"We wanted to distill the wonder, drama, and the galaxies of possibility that space offers us as a species, into game form. Mars Horizon is our love-letter to the race into space and the challenges and triumphs of humanity on the way to becoming a multiplanetary species".
The first part of a three-part pod cast series is available at the developer's website here, detailing the game's production.
