Man Tears Tendon After Playing Candy Crush for Weeks

Man Tears Tendon After Playing Candy Crush for Weeks

According to Live Science, a California man tore a tendon after playing Candy Crush on his phone for too long, citing reports from a recent medical case.

The 29-year-old only went to the doctor because his thumb hurt and had difficulty moving it. The doctors found out that he had been playing Candy Crush for six to eight weeks. He had been using his left hand to play the game, while using his right hand for other daily tasks, but playing the game was an always-on secondary thing for him.

According to the report, the man did not feel any pain while he was swiping away at the screen.

The report goes on to mention the findings from this case:

The case shows that, in a sense, video games may numb people's pain and contribute to video game addiction.

We need to be aware that certain video games can act like digital painkillers. When people play video games, they can feel pleasure and excitement that are tied to the release of natural painkillers in the body.

The rupture of the tendon was at its thickest, the report goes on to add, and this sort of injury is usually accompanied by pain prior to the rupture itself, which, for reasons stated above, was not experienced by the man. He eventually needed surgery to repair his tendon.

The doctor also advised in the report that gaming should be limited to about 30 minutes a day.

More details about the report can be found here.
