MangaGamer Joins Hands With GOG to Spread Visual Novels to All
In lieu of Steam's recent increasing hardline stance against visual novels, MangaGamer, a premier distributor of visual novel games, has announced that they will be partnering up with GOG.COM to ensure that those games will continue to be available to those who want them.
Despite recently receiving several tweets advising that their games are being re-reviewed for content violations, developers of games, particularly of the visual novel genre, with "explicit" content have become increasingly concerned with Steam's viability as a platform for distribution of their games following a number of takedown strikes against them - including the popular HuniePop games, which have been on Steam for three years now and have wildly positive reviews from fans. In response to these perceived attacks, MangaGamer has turned to other online marketplace...and that GOG.COM has accepted them with open arms.
"Steam has now proven that it's growing unreliable for small and independent developers," said MangaGamer's PR Director John Pickett, "so we are very grateful to have the next biggest retailer in the PC market welcoming Visual Novels with open arms and an eye for quality. In the long run we hope to transition our full Steam catalog over to GOG, and we hope other developers will consider reaching out to them too. We want fans everywhere to always have a means of enjoy these great titles."
MangaGamer also announced that they are working closely with GOG on nine new titles, including the "recently threatened" Kindred Spirits on the Roof, and A Kiss for the Petals ~Maidens of Michael~, which Valve removed from Steam in March with no warning or notice.
Following this announcement, the new partners have announced that a number of MangaGamer's catalogue is going on sale for up to 66% off, including Fault, the Sunrider series, eden, and the Higurashi When They Cry series. Several other visual novel games, including the Sunrider Academy series and the fault series of games, are also on sale. Check out GOG.COM to find out the full details.
