Microsoft's Games with Gold Programme Continues into the New Year
Going into the new year Microsoft are looking to Square Enix to bring home the bacon for those of us on an Xbox Live Gold membership. Every month we are given 2 games for free and in January they are looking good.
From January 1st - January 15th we will gain access to Sleeping Dogs.
Sleeping Dogs is a third person action adventure game with role-playing elements. You control Wei Shen, a Chinese-American police officer, as he goes undercover to infiltrate the Sun On Yee Triad organization.
Storyline missions are necessary to progress through the game and unlock certain content and parts of the city but players can complete them at their leisure. When not attempting a mission, players can free-roam. As you explore you are given the the opportunity to participate in activities such as car-jacking, joining a fight club, singing karaoke, visiting gambling dens betting on cockfights and participating in street races.
January 16th - January 31st gives us Lara Croft and The Guardian of Light
The Guardian of Light is a non-linear arcade inspired action game in which you can choose to play as either Lara or a Mayan Tribesman named Totec. Each character has unique weapons and skills.
In single player mode only Lara is playable and you have to guide her through a series of tombs and puzzles. In multiplayer mode both characters work together to explore the tombs and solve the puzzles.
Xbox Live Gold subscribers will be able to download United Front Games’ Sleeping Dogs for free between January 1st and January 15th, while the isometric co-op puzzler Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light will be free to download between January 16th and January 31st.
Sleeping Dogs sees players assume the role of Wei Shen, an undercover cop in Hong Kong, attempting to take down the Triads from the inside. Wei must prove his loyalty to the Triads, while maintaining law and order. And being caught in the middle is not an easy place to be. Meanwhile, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light allows players to team up with a friend or take on the journey alone as they navigate traps, fight hordes of enemies and attempt to discover a range of relics and artefacts.
January is an impressive month for the Games With Gold scheme, which has been somewhat underwhelming since its inception. A few more months like this and Xbox owners will have something to celebrate as PlayStation owners do thanks to PS+.
