A new champion is about to join the Rift (or Howling Abyss — we don't discriminate here), and this one's set his sights on Jhin's title for artisan. Meet Hwei: The Visionary, the newest mage champion who will be joining Patch 13.24, which is the final patch scheduled for League of Legends of the year according to the Patch Schedule shared at the beginning of 2023.
The first thing to note is the Champion Trailer shared on the official League of Legends YouTube channel, wherein we get to see a glimpse of the 200 years of collective game design that Hwei will bring to the game. His connections to Jhin are established, but his direct association is left open... for now. In the video, we see about 30 seconds of gameplay elements that we've come to expect from the videos, though it isn't entirely clear what he does due to the amount of painting and killing without any discernable abilities.
A quick look at his abilities and trailer: it takes no genius to realise that Hwei is the most complex champion that has joined the Rift since the release of Aphelios (which confused, and continues to confuse, a lot of people). In total count, Hwei has 10 abilities that he'll be able to use, and 11 if you count the passive in, as well. This will give him a lot of versatility on the Rift, but is also mentioned as one of the "highest skill-ceiling champions".
Community reaction to the trailer has been positive, garnering over 700,000 views in less than 24 hours and having 34k upvotes against 2.5k downvotes. In the comments, a lot of jokes about his complexities and comparisons to Aphelios are being made, but many are intrigued by his connection to Jhin and how he came to be inspired by our killer's antics.
If you're interested in trying out Hwei: The Visionary, then look forward to his release when Patch 13.24 comes out as the final one of the year on Wednesday, 6th of December. In the meantime, make sure to check out his champion trailer above!
