New Release Date for No Man's Sky

New Release Date for No Man's Sky

The rumours about a delay to No Man's Sky have been officially confirmed via Sony's PlayStation Blog. Whilst the game will still be shipping this year, the date is slipping from the originally planned 21st of July. The title will now launch on the 9th August in North America, followed by mainland Europe on 10th August, and finally the 12th August sees the game released in the UK and Republic of Ireland.

The news was broken by Sean Murray, who is a developer at Hello Games and owner of a tremendous beard:

We understand that this news is disappointing. Making this game is the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life, but we are so close now, and we’re prepared to make the tough choices to get it right...

...To the loyal community who’s stuck by our side since the unveiling of No Man’s Sky years ago, we hope you’ll accept our sincere apology and I am humbly asking that you’ll still look forward to exploring our universe despite the slight delay.

The news was met with a mixed reception from fans of the title. Whilst most were happy to wait for a game with the quality that they wanted, a few were a little more vocal about the delay. Some even went as far as to state that the delay made the game no longer worth waiting for and there were some calls for pre-order refunds.

Here at GameGrin, we like to remember the words of the venerable Shigeru Miyamoto; "A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad."
