Official Nintendo Magazine to Close Its Pages

Official Nintendo Magazine to Close Its Pages

The long running Official Nintendo Magazine owned by Future Publishing, is set to close it doors after its next issue.

Issue 114, going on sale in the UK from October 14th will be the final print to go on sale after the magazine's long and prestigious twelve years in publishing.

In a removed Q&A on ONM's website (due to be closed on November 11th), a spokesman said that:

It was a joint decision [to close]. Nintendo has decided to direct efforts toward other communication channels to communicate with fans, and Future is focusing on a core of existing sites with the recently launched Kotaku UK providing a great platform for our wealth of Nintendo experts from ONM and the wider Future network. Combined they will continue to deliver the Nintendo expertise our readers have come to expect in exciting new ways.

Subscribers to Official Nintendo Magazine will have their subscriptions moved to Gamesmaster, the multi-format publication, but have the option to cancel as long as they do so before the 17th of October.

No word yet on the future of Official Xbox Magazine as well as PlayStation Official Magazine, both owned by Future, but the news that staff working on ONM will be moved to the online side of things as opposed to another printed publication doesn't make for optimistic reading.
