Old School RuneScape goes Free to Play

The much-loved PvP game RuneScape has been put up by the developer on some F2P servers - and if they get enough new users they will keep it as F2P forever.

However, this only applies to new users. If you played 23 hours a day 'back in the day', then you won't be able to use those characters. Or those accounts. However, exsisting paying members will be able to access the same F2P worlds, so if you still know anyone who plays you can band together with them - and maybe buy a membership afterwards.

Your new account will be able to access the F2P worlds for two weeks after creating your account, to allow you to get a feel for the game. If the F2P trial is a success and Jagex make some money, they will be polling the community on whether it should remain a permanent thing.

In the F2P worlds, Yew Trees will be disabled. This is to avoid new users putting bots to work farming them for gold.
