Origin Will Stop Selling Physical Games

Origin Will Stop Selling Physical Games

Origin, Electronic Arts' distribution software and answer to Steam, will no longer sell physical copies of games after April 4.

Noting in a post on the Origin website that for "99% of [their] users" the change would mean "absolutely nothing," EA seemed steadfast in their decision. The distributor has given no official explanation for it's move away from physical sales via Origin, although it was made clear that EA sees physical game discs as a dying medium, telling its alleged 1% of gamers who prefer physical discs: "We’ll still be here when you transition your gaming habits to the wonders of digital downloads."

The Origin team also added a final note that leaving the physical game business would allow the software to streamline and improve its capabilities for digital-format games. Clearly, the decision is a part of EA's continuing attempts to improve on Origin--which has never been popular in the gaming community at large, especially in comparison with it's competitor Steam--although it's up in the air how much good this announcement will actually do in the long run.

Presumably, Origin's decision will not effect the sales of physical copies of EA games elsewhere.

After being told dragontamer is "not a real job", she settled for being a word typer-upper. Finally got those San Diego Comic Con tickets.
