Outcast Getting A Second Chance To Show You Adelpha

The original Outcast released in 1999 and was a showcase for technically impressive open voxel-based worlds winning over 100 awards around its initial launch. Its use of voxels gave it a unique if chunky, organic look that disappeared from games soon after as the inevitable march of polygonal environments took over.

The game saw you, as ex-Navy SEAL Cutter Slade, stumble into an alien world after a US probe got destroyed after passing through a portal. This starts a chain of events that brought not only Earth but Adelpha, the planet Slade now found himself on under threat.

Outcast - Second Contact is confusingly not a sequel but a complete remaster of the original game, eschewing the pioneering voxel engine for a modern, advanced polygonal one. The trailer shows off how the remaster looks and how well it keeps the original title's aesthetic.

The remaster is now due for release this fall on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC via Steam.
