PlayStation's Worldwide Studios Chairman is Leaving the Company

The official PlayStation Twitter account made a surprise announcement recently that SIE Worldwide Studios Chairman Shawn Layden would be leaving the company.

The Tweet reads: “It is with great emotion that we announce that Worldwide Studios Chairman Shawn Layden will be departing SIE. His visionary leadership will be greatly missed. We wish him success in future endeavors and are deeply grateful for his years of service. Thanks for everything, Shawn!”

Given the delivery and language used in the Tweet, it doesn’t appear that any bad blood caused the separation of the two parties, however it’s a surprisingly sudden departure nonetheless. Shawn Layden has seen a long career at Sony, joining the company in 1987 before becoming the CEO of SIE in 2014. He later stepped down as CEO in 2018 to focus on SIE Worldwide Studios.

It’s currently unclear as to what Shawn Layden plans to do after departing from SIE, but we wish him the best of luck in future endeavours.
