Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield Revealed

During a recent Pokémon Direct presentation the next mainline entries in the Pokémon series were official revealed. Making the 8th generation for the series, Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield are also the first mainline entries to come to the Nintendo Switch.

Tsunekazu Ishihara, President and CEO of The Pokémon Company, lead the announcement by introduce the two new titles. Following on from Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee! the new entries will be a return to the well known and loved role-playing formula that fans are familiar with. Taking place in a whole new region called Galar - which looks to be inspired by the UK - has a variety of stunning locations to explore. Players will need to visit the various Gyms within the region, as is the norm, on their way to becoming a Pokémon Champion all while catching and training new and familiar Pokémon.

Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield are the latest exciting adventures in the Pokémon video game journey that began twenty-three years ago on this day,” said Mr. Ishihara. “Since then, Trainers around the world have discovered new Pokémon, engaged in epic battles, and made countless memories along the way. We look forward to continuing this journey by exploring a stunning new region in the Pokémon universe when the games launch later this year on Nintendo Switch.”

That's not all, as the three new starter Pokémon for the titles were revealed as well. This includes Grookey, a Grass-type Chimp Pokémon, Scorbunny, a Fire-type Rabbit Pokémon and Sobble, a Water-type Water Lizard Pokémon. You can see the three of these in action in the above trailer, as well as their individual images.

Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield will be launching later this year on the Nintendo Switch. Expect plenty of new details about the titles to be released in the coming months.
