PS4 Sells 5.7m over Christmas
The PS4 sold enough consoles to stretch from Land's End to John O'Groats and back again over Christmas. You would probably also invalidate the warranty on many of those 5.7 devices if you did though so we would recommend against such an attempt.
This strong period of sales brings the PS4 up to a whopping 35.9 million units; enough to give one to nearly everyone in Tanzania (although there's a million people who will probably resent you for leaving them out).
In addition, 60% more users subscribed to PlayStation Plus at the end of 2015 compared to the same period the previous year, giving Sony a vast online community. With 35 million software units shipped over Christmas as well, it's safe to say that Sony had happy holidays.
"We are absolutely delighted that so many customers have selected PS4 as the best place to play throughout this holiday season and that the PS4 community is growing more than ever," said Andrew House, President and Global CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. "We remain steadfast in our commitment to deliver innovative entertainment experiences, and look forward to bringing an unprecedented games portfolio from third party developers and publishers and SCE Worldwide Studios[...] this coming year."
