PS4 Share Play Walkthrough

Share Play is a big part of the PS4 2.0 Masamune firmware update, which the videos above (one EU the other NA) show off quite nicely. Though we think the NA one is less flashy and more informative...

What Share Play is, if you can't watch the videos, is the following three things:

• Share Screen – Available without PS+.
• Hand over my controller – The Host requires PS+.
• Hand over another controller – Both players require PS+.

It's basically having your friend sitting on the sofa next to you. Share Screen allows them to watch you play, the other two allow them to play.

Say you're having trouble with a boss, but your friend has finished the game before and traded it in. You can hand them your controller virtually and watch them play - it all happens on their PS4 without downloading or requiring them to own the game or even PlayStation Plus.

But say you want to play a coop game as if they were in the room. You can do that too, by giving them a second virtual controller. Again, this all happens on their PS4 without a copy of the game, but it does require them to have a PS+ account.

These play bouts are limited to one hour each, but you can instantly reconnect for another hour.
