R-Type Dimensions Blasting Its Way Onto PlayStation 3
Some of us here at GameGrin are young enough *cough* to remember days stood at arcade cabinets yanking stubby metal shafted joysticks about while pounding on small red plastic buttons in an effort to pilot a space fighter named R-9a "Arrowhead" and defend humanity against a mysterious powerful alien life-form known as the "Bydo".
Now, years after the Xbox 360 version, PlayStation 3 owners can join the fight in R-Type Dimensions starting on May the 20th.
R-Type Dimensions is an upgraded compilation containing both R-Type and R-Type 2, classic games which stand as exemplars of the side-scrolling shoot-em-up genre. Arcade purists can opt to play either game in their original, pixel-perfect forms but R-Type Dimensions also offers new-fangled, high-definition, polygonal graphics and remastered sound. Tozai has also added an Infinite Mode, which grants players an unending supply of ships, as well as a Level Select for those who want to practice their shoot-em-up skills on a specific stage.
Crucially, R-Type Dimensions includes modern network code, allowing players to blast aliens alongside a friend from anywhere in the world and local co-op is also included for the sofa sharers amongst you.
