Raptr To Drop Console Support

Raptr To Drop Console Support

Raptr the game tweaking , community and buddy list-a-palooza website / app is to ditch support for tracking of console gameplay in a move that was announced on Monday.

Explaining that changes to PSN and XBL kept breaking their systems and the lightweight Twitch streaming and game optimisation systems they use to "enhance the PC gaming experience" are viewed as a stronger presence by the company and as such resources once used to fix and improve console tracking support will be retargeted to the PC gaming side of things.

A FAQ explaining the changes and what it all means can be found here.

When we remind ourselves that the CEO of Raptr is Dennis "Thresh" Fong, the kid who won John Carmacks Ferrari 328 in the 1997 "Red Annihilation" Quake tournament, it's not surprising that they would find the PC gaming arena a better fit.

RIP Raptr. Console tracking was what got me to sign up for Raptr in it's early days, and with that gone - and it's recent trend into more bloated software that does all the same things I have covered elsewhere, means that I no longer have a use for it. It's a shame, as I imagine a lot of their early adopters were those looking for console tracking.

Farewell, dino. Farewell.

Console tracking hooked me. Dropping it now lost me. Im trying out the suggestion they gave for console gamers, PlayFire, but im a bit skeptical at the moment since it thinks my most recent game is Demon Souls (Played 8 hours ago), a game I have not popped in the drive in more than 6 months. Interestingly it does seem to be pulling old updates as its shows me as playing games for the first time 2 weeks ago...but not Eternal sonata I played just now...

Yeah, I've also tried PlayFire and had the same results - it's showing that the last thing I played was 3 months ago, though I wonder if the influx of people to their service has has a hand in things? Maybe they're having to play a huge game of catch-up right now with everyones accounts.

Still, looking for other possibilities at the moment, in case PlayFire doesn't work out.
