Rising Thunder Scrapped as Riot Games Purchase Radiant Entertainment

Sad times for everyone who was excited for free-to-play fighter Rising Thunder, as the game has now been cancelled. After an Alpha test phase that had attracted a cult following, the game is being cancelled as the team moves on to other tasks.

The reason here is not a change of heart from the developers though, it’s due to a big name takeover of the company. Riot Games, creators of the esports sensation that is League of Legends, have purchased the company and all their assets and IPs.

Radiant are also working on Stonehearth, a block building game, also in alpha. This will still see the light of day however and the developer have confirmed that they will deliver the game “when it’s ready”. They’ve already been keeping fans updated with Twitch streams and blog posts and they’ve promised to continue that communication throughout the transition to Riot.

In a statement on their website, they thanked their customers as well as announced that Rising Thunder is making way for something new and exciting:

“As for Rising Thunder, the team will start work on a new game that we’re incredibly excited about. We wish we could say more now, but rest assured you’ll hear more when the time is right. For now, we will be permanently closing Rising Thunder on March 18th. Thanks to everyone who participated in the Alpha! “
