RPG Limit Break Raises Over $160,000 For National Alliance on Mental Illness

RPGLB

Speedrunners have a long history over the past decade of raising money for excellent causes, like Doctors Without Borders, the Prevent Cancer Foundation, and most recently, NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, which is the ballywick of RPG Limit Break, which just concluded its 2018 run with a whopping $164,360 raised - shattering last year's record of $111,000.

RPG Limit Break featured popular games in the RPG genre including several Final Fantasy titles, Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, and Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and closed out with two gruelling runs: a glitchless 100% Chrono Trigger run by puwexil (head organizer for the event) and a Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix by TehRizzle for a solid 10 hours of two of the most popular RPGs ever made.

With the event having drawn to a close, VODs will be made available on the RPG Limit Break Youtube Channel here. Highlights include the Nier: Automata disc being accidentally ejected part way through ItsKasa's run, the "Balloonra IRL" bid incentive being met for the Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance run (words fail to describe...it really must be seen to be believed), and couch commentators singing Disney songs (and "One Winged Angel" from Final Fantasy VII) during the final Kingdom Hears II Final Mix run.

Fans of speedruns can watch out for the next big charity marathon, Summer Games Done Quick benefiting Doctors Without Borders, which kicks off 24th June, 2018, and runs through 1st July, 2018. The schedule of games can be found at the SGDQ website here. Last year, SGDQ raised $2.2 million for Doctors Without Borders and, to date, has raised over $14 million for the charity.
