RVGS Returns With Help From Coleco
If you followed the saga of the RVGS earlier in the year, you'll know that it wasn't as much of a success as had been hoped. If you didn't follow it, I shall explain that it was a modern take on the retro video game console. The idea was that it would be a completely new cartridge based system. Bringing us back to the days of games that won't have patches and DLC and have no loading times was the dream. The ambitious Indiegogo campaign didn't raise the funds that it need however and we all thought the dream was over.
Fast forward to today though and out of the blue, the system has returned and brought one of the most loved gaming companies with it. The Coleco Chameleon is a versatile video-game system that serves as a modern day take on the classic game console and will accurately play compilations of favourite games from the past. It also has the ability to play brand-new games in the 8-, 16- and 32-bit styles.
Chris Cardillo, a partner in Coleco said,
"Mark [Thomann] and I are excited to work hand-in-hand with Retro Video Game Systems, Inc. in the launch of the Coleco Chameleon. It's ironic that a new ‘retro’ video-game system would actually revolutionize and revitalize the Coleco brand."

Retro Video Game Systems, Inc. President Mike Kennedy adds,
“The Coleco Chameleon is a love-letter to all the classic cartridge based gaming systems that came before it and we love the fact it will succeed Coleco’s successful Telstar and Colecovision product lines. It will take gamers and their families back to a simpler time where games were all about great gameplay and fun factor.”
The system is planned for a launch in 2016 with pricing details and territories yet to be announced. Anyone wanting a sneak preview can attend the Toy Fair New York 2016 in February, where the console will be demonstrated live.

Looks remarkably like an Atari Jaguar.
