Skater XL to Allow Modding on All Platforms (Even Console)

Easy Day Studios' skateboarding sim, Skater XL, is to become one of the first console games to allow "true cross-platform modding" when it initiates its Mod.io integration in December 2020 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC versions of the game. Check out the initiative's announcement trailer above.

While it seems as if the content on offer will still be curated by the developer itself (the mods' releases are referred to as content "drops"), this is still a step above most other console games on the market, with the notable exception of Bethesda's endeavours to enable mods on console.

The first "drop" in December will comprise exclusively maps and gear, with the promise of a "steady stream of player-created maps and gear to follow". It'll be interesting to see where this leads Skater XL going forward, and if it'll have any impact on other console games implementing mod content (even if it is in a heavily-curated form).

Skater XL is out now for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. The first Mod.io-integrated mods will be available in December 2020 on all of the above platforms.
