Sonic Boom Game and Villain Details

They have revealed that there will be playable code at E3 and the big bad of the two games - a snake in a mech suit called Lyric.

The games will be called Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric for the Wii U is being developed by Big Red Button (their first game), Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal for the 3DS comes from Sanzaru Games (who made Sly Cooper Thieves in Time).

Lyric comes from an ancient snake-like race (ie: snakes) and seeks to power his robotic army (because ancient means mech suits and robots) and destroy the world. As the blog post puts it:

The stakes have never been higher, and the only chance to overcome Lyric is to band together and work as a team.

Because Shadow and Dr Robotnik trying to blow up the planet with a space-laser in Sonic Adventure 2 was a much lower stake...

Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric will also feature CRYENGINE powered graphics, a first for Wii U and Sonic, so it will at least look great if not be entirely original.

They also released some information about the Enerbeam:

This new feature in the game gives players an energy-charged cord that can be used by characters to navigate the world like never before. Players will be able to swing or zip-line across gaps, explore alternate paths, grab and throw enemies and take away their shields in combat.

Showing that "Kellie" who wrote the blog post hasn't played a host of Sonic titles. Swinging and zip-lining were all over Sonic Adventure 1&2, exploring alternate paths has been in it since Sonic The Hedgehog 2 and grabbing and throwing enemies was the whole reason you used Knuckles in Sonic Heroes.

Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal will feature a different storyline, about Amy being kidnapped by Lyric and the team, including new arrival Sticks, running to the rescue. It will be more classic run-and-smash than Rise of Lyric's exploring. There will be unlockable content connecting the two via Wifi.

Both titles are due out in November.
