Sony Cancels 4th June PS5 Event

Sony Cancels 4th June PS5 Event

The official PlayStation Twitter account has recently confirmed that its 4th June PlayStation 5 showcase is to be cancelled, with no new date yet provided.

The tweet, which can be found below, states that they "do not feel that right now is a time for celebration" given the protests that have broken out across America, as a result of the death of George Floyd in May.

Sony was thought to have prepared a showing of slightly longer than an hour solely of games, with the vast majority running directly on PS5 hardware. The company reportedly took note of the backlash after Microsoft's first Xbox Series X conference, so has taken steps to ensure that the same criticisms won't be levelled at them.

There is currently no word on when Sony will reschedule the event. Stay tuned and we'll let you know as soon as it's announced.

EDIT: We incorrectly identified the protests as violent, this has been removed.
