Sony Reveal More Details of the Playstation VR, Including PC Compatibility

With the launch of the Oculus Rift coming tomorrow, all eyes are currently on the VR industry. The device is set to complete with Valve and HTC's joint creation, The Vive, and also with Sony's PlayStation VR. Sony have been a bit quieter on the details of their device, due October. In an interview with Japanese tech site Nikkei, the firm revealed more details of their future plans for the device.

Sony see the device as a Mid-range VR solution. Sitting between the premium tier offered by HTC and Oculus, and the low-priced Google Cardboard and Gear VR from Samsung. As there's no other player in this market, the Japanese company feel this is a win-win situation where they have a market to themselves and consumers can have a device more powerful than a mobile phone based unit, but cheaper than the notoriously expensive premium devices.

We can expect to see in the region of a hundred titles before the end of the year, which is good as Sony are expecting to sell between one and two million units. This will understandably give them a lot of players wanting a good VR game to play on their unit. Whilst the £399 price isn't as high as some of the competition, it's still expensive enough to need a good catalogue in order to justify the purchase.

One thing that might convince those on the fence, needing a good reason, is the addition of PC support. Sony didn't go as far as confirming that it would come, stating that they are focusing on getting the best experience for PS4 players at the moment, but they did say that use of the device on PCs is something that they are seriously considering for the future.
