Summer Games Done Quick Kicks Off

Summer Games Done Quick Kicks Off

The second of the annual "Games Done Quick" charity marathons kicked off this weekend with Summer Games Done Quick, or SGDQ, being held once again in Minnesota (Bloomington, to be exact). SGDQ is a seven-day speed running marathon to benefit Doctors Without Borders, a humanitarian organization that provides medical aid to over 70 countries that wouldn't otherwise be able to receive it.

Last year alone, SGDQ raised almost $1.8 million for Doctors Without Borders, crushing its previous year's record of $1.3 million. To date, the charity even has raised over $5 million for the cause.

Unlike RPG Limit Break, another large-scale charity speed-run marathon, Games Done Quick has no genre restrictions. That means they run everything from popular recent releases like Doom (2016), Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and Crash Bandicoot: N Sane Trilogy; well-loved classics like The Legend of Zelda (numerous incarnations including Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, and Skyward SwordSuper Metroid, and a bevy of Mega ManCastlevania, and Super Mario games; and, of course, a bunch of random games you've probably never heard of.

The "Awful Games Done Quick" block is an absolute delight.

A full schedule of games can be found over at the GDQ website here, and you can check out the stream on Twitch at www.twitch.tv/gamesdonequick or straight from their website.
