The Great Whale Road is a Viking adventure game not unlike LucasArts old point-and-click ones. The first title from Spanish studios Sunburned Games have been in Early Access for the past eight months, and today it has a release date planned for the 30th of March, 2017.
Dubbed a "historical RPG", The Great Whale Road is a story-driven game set in sixth-century medieval Europe (that's Early Middle Ages).
The game tells the tale of the Danes of Úlfarrsted, and the gameplay -- besides story and side quests -- revolves around seasonal events, resource management, and tactical turn-based combat; you must hunt and adventure during summer, and take care of your people through the harsh winter weather.
After launch, two new storylines will be made available focusing on the Franks and the Frisians, two obviously separate cultures from the Danes. For one, they're from France and Germany, while the Danes are from... well, Denmark. Those two storylines will come as free content updates, and are promised before the summer. Technically, the game features an interesting hand-drawn art, and is the result of two years of work. The press release says "Sunburned Games thanks the community, their team, and their families", which sounds cute.
