TinyBuild Celebrate 1.9 Million Players of Punch Club. Some Even Paid for It

We all know that software piracy is an issue. Whilst some companies have seen a degree of success, it's still rampant. How much of an issue is it? Well tinyBuild decided to show us, with the aid of some pretty graphs on their website showing the statistics of user tracking in Punch Club. The stats are alarming, with the game being pirated 1.6million times, and bought legally just 300k.

What is most interesting though, is the areas where it is pirated. As you might expect, some of the largest amounts of piracy comes from poorer countries like Brazil and China. There's a lot to be said for localisation too, as Brazil became the most prolific thief of the game only after Portuguese was added as a language option.

There are some damning figures per platforms. While two thirds of iOS users decided that paying for the game wasn't worth it, Android was much worse. For every person purchasing on an Android phone or tablet, there are 12 pirates. Answering the questions "why can't we have nice things?" and "why is the Play Store full of freemium games?" If you're interested in the figures, then you can get a full breakdown on TinyBuild's website here.

Unsurprising that Android has higher amounts of piracy. You don't have to jailbreak an Android phone.

It's interesting when devs release figures like these. It shows that they're aware of the problem, even if there's little they can do to solve it...

This is true, but the sheer scale astounded me, it's sixfold higher and that's just nuts!

Pretty interesting numbers in there. Can imagine that's pretty annoying for the devs.

However, I wonder how many of those pirated copies went on to buy the game, and whether that would skew the stats they have on display?
