Vivendi Acquire Shares in Ubisoft and Gameloft
Only 2 years after selling off most of their shares in Blizzard Activision, Vivendi have rekindled their interest in the gaming market by purchasing shares in two other companies.
Vivendi acquired a 6.6 percent stake in Ubisoft for 140 million euros, and a 6.2 percent holding in Gameloft for 19.7 million euros. Although this makes them a minority shareholder, it certainly shows intent in the company who were once a majority shareholder in the World of Warcraft developer.
The news sparked off a surge in trade interest in both companies with Ubisoft shares rocketing up 14% and Gameloft seeing a 17% increase in share price over the days trading.
Both companies have stated that the share purchases were unsolicited and there's been no link between the French conglomerate and any other gaming company so clearly Vivendi sees potential and has gone after them specifically.

Well, Vivendi wasn't a name I'd seen in quite a while, I'll admit.

I believe they have a new CEO so perhaps he wants to see the company go in a different direction?
