YoYo Games, GamerMaker: Studio sold to PlayTech

YoYo Games, GamerMaker: Studio sold to PlayTech

You may of not heard of YoYo Games, but if you've ever had an interest in video game development, then you may of heard of or used their development tool GameMaker: Studio.

The GameMaker: Studio or GMS, allows those interested in game design; to create and build their own games using a large selection of tools for design and programming. The software is quite successful having a number of indie and big name studios, using and some hits as Hotline Miami, Spelunky and Gunpoint all use it as it's base engine.

Now, the company YoYo Games has been bought by PlayTech for $16.4 million (£10.6m). PlayTech's main business is online casino and gambling; they specialise in the software side of things, as opposed to actual gambling.

While this may not affect GMS in any bad way; it's doubtful they'll close it down. This new acquisition will allow PlayTech to enter the casual non-gambling gaming market and may also bring casino / gambling support to the GMS software, if the developer chooses.
