3 Games That Are Not So Far Fetched in 2020

On 1st April this year, I saw a meme doing the rounds saying: “We should cancel April Fools because this whole year has been a joke.”

If this time last year, someone had described what 2020 would bring, here’s to bet that you would not have believed a word of it.

  • Global pandemic – check
  • Novel coronavirus – check
  • Social distancing – check
  • Going out in masks - check
  • Mass lockdowns - check
  • Hundreds of thousands dead - check
  • Hospital staff in hazmat suits - check
  • Air traffic brought to a halt - check
  • Industries frozen - check
  • Overnight unemployment for millions - check
  • Global economies brought to their knees - check

And that’s just what we know for sure!

How about all the controversial theories doing the rounds? Lab-created viruses intentionally spread to allow one country to claim world dominance? A virus that morphed from an infected bat? And the list goes on…

In other words, a true apocalypse!

If truth be told, people love the idea of the apocalypse, so much so, there are many videogames and even slot games dedicated to this genre.

We look at three popular post-apocalyptic games that, suddenly, in 2020, don’t seem so far-fetched after all!

Fallout Shelter

This videogame gained popularity across the board and by multiple audiences because it is adaptable on many platforms, including Nintendo Switch, PC, Xbox, Android, iPhone and PlayStation. You can also choose to play in one of two modes – casual mode or hardcore mode. However, even hardcore isn’t that demanding and Fallout Shelter attracts mainly casual players. The graphics are simple and animated, which adds to its appeal.

This is a survivalist-themed game where you are required to build a vault to protect earth’s dwellers from the apocalypse raging outside. Use one of two currencies to achieve your main aim. Caps are used to get your hands on rooms for the dwellers, weapons to fight the invaders, outfits to protect yourself and vault designs. The Nuka Cola currency buys you faster travel across the apocalyptic wasteland or quicker construction of the vault.

Fallout Shelter is free-to-play across the platforms listed above, but offers in-app purchases.

Zombies

In 2012, the software provider, NetEnt released its hugely popular Zombies slot that can be played at online casinos that are powered by this group. The 5 reel, 20 pay line Zombies is set in a deserted shopping mall and describes a world where the dead come to life in a zombie epidemic. The graphics are gruesomely excellent, bringing home the theme in the most realistic way possible.

The medium variance Zombies is suitable for all. Casual players can wager as little as 20c per spin, while highrollers enjoy the more challenging $200 per spin. Of course, there are lots more wagering options in between.

Zombies slot has some cool bonus features. Its wild symbol appears on the first, second, fourth and fifth reels and substitutes for most other symbols to create winning substitutions. The stacked wild appears on reel 3 and when it does, it nudges up or down to cover the entire reel. In the Random Wild feature, 2 zombie heads appear to cover the reels, followed by up to six wilds. When the radioactive flask scatter symbol appears on the 3 middle reels, you’ll trigger the free spins feature where you can receive five free spins and multiply your winnings by up to 10x.

Angry Angels

Imagine gun-toting female assassins against the backdrop of a bombed-out world and black skies, and you’ll have WorldMatch’s 5-reel Angry Angels slot. The ladies of the game pull no punches and do all they can to slay their foes. We are particularly impressed with the graphics of this military-themed game, which boasts symbols such as spitfires, robot drones, and the protagonists carrying different types of weapons. The excellent background music and dramatic animations add to the appeal of Angry Angels slot.

The wild symbol substitutes for all others, except the bonus logo and the free spins scatter symbols, and pays the highest jackpot of 7,500 coins if you line up five on the reels.

During the free spins round, triggered by at least three scatter symbols, all your winnings are tripled. During the bonus game, you’re whisked off to a mini-game on a second screen, where you’re required to click on a selected target on the screen. The missile launcher then propels an ominous-looking rocket to the target, which it destroys before displaying your reward.
