All METAL GEAR SOLID 2: Sons Of Liberty Bomb Locations

If you're struggling to find the bombs around the Big Shell plant, you're in the right place! Here, I have listed all of the bomb locations for Normal difficulty and below.

Please note that any directions given in this guide are relative to the player, not Raiden. And make sure to have the relevant Detector equipped at all times when hunting.

Strut C

MGS2 Strut C Bomb

This bomb is inside the ladies’ bathroom, which is south and to the right of the kitchen you were just in (conversing with Stillman), and is directly above the sinks.

As you'll see, there are no guards in this area, so it's completely safe to wander around.

Strut B

MGS2 Strut B Bomb

Bomb number two is found in the room where Vamp ambushed SEAL Team 10. You'll see that this bomb is easy to spot behind the door once the locker door has been closed.

Be careful, as there are two guards in this area now, one of whom patrols within the bomb room itself.

Strut A

MGS2 Strut A Bomb

Strut A's bomb is a little trickier to see, and disarming it requires more than merely spotting it this time.

So, in Strut A's pipe room (the southern section of the Strut), you must climb up and over the east-side steps. You'll now be in an enclosed area amongst some large pipes, which can be crawled under. Follow this new, one-way path around until you reach the red pipeline, and then head southward. The bomb can now be seen within another isolated area.

As expected, the difficulty of each Strut continues to gently increase as you revisit them; be aware that Strut A now has two guards and a security camera to contend with.

Strut F

MGS2 Strut F Bomb

Strut F is another bit of not-so-straightforward bomb disposal, even requiring some platforming to accomplish.

You can come over directly from Strut A into F because the hexagonal nature of the Plant means that they are connected. Just check your main map to see which door to use. However, do not enter Strut F on the lower level!

Once inside Strut F, you'll notice that you are standing in an upside-down T-shaped hallway. Go northward, into the main area of Strut F. Here, the warehouse will open out, and both floors can be seen as one large room. Hug the central railing, following it around to the left. When you are in the right spot (as seen in the accompanying image), hop over the railing and drop down onto some crates. Then, drop down again to the otherwise inaccessible area that houses the bomb. Freeze away!

So, Strut F will very probably be the toughest yet. This is because you more than likely will not have activated this Strut's map node yet, and thus, you'll be blind (something true of all future entries in this guide). Throw in three guards with radio capabilities, and you might find this takes a couple of tries.

Strut D

MGS2 Strut D Bomb

Strut D will need to be accessed by looping back through already cleared struts and heading across from Strut C. This is because hidden mines have been positioned along the bridge between Struts F and E.

Once you make it to Strut D, you'll quickly be prompted to start checking the hatches without context. Well, can you guess where the next bomb is hiding? The specific hatch we need is directly below where you would have entered from Strut C. So, head down the stairs (at the north of the room) and loop back to the left.

Once again, there are three guards and a radio spread over two levels, so keep your eyes peeled.

Strut E

MGS2 Strut E Bomb

At Strut E, you must make your way to the helipad on the roof. You'll enter Strut E's interior first, which houses two guards. On the opposite end of the room, on the east wall, are the stairs that lead upstairs. Follow the exterior walkway around to another set of steps that connect to the helipad. At the opposite end of the roof, to the north of your current position, is where the bomb is located; it has been attached to the underside of the parked jet plane.

Luckily, there are only two guards wandering around this huge space, so they shouldn't give you any trouble whatsoever.

Strut A (Revisited)

MGS2 Strut A Bomb Final2

At this point, it is believed that all of the bombs have been dealt with. However, there is another, which has been planted at the base of Strut A with a 400-second timer.

Having now revisited the kitchen in Strut B as instructed, you are directed back to Strut A by Stillman and Snake. Get back there quickly, retracing your steps back to where you began Raiden's section. Above the water, you'll see a small submarine; the bomb is stuck to the bottom of it, similarly to the jet plane.

Strut E (Revisited)

MGS2 Strut E Bomb Final

After dealing with Fortune and Vamp, you'll receive another 400-second timer. However, this bomb is easy to spot on the helipad because it has been purposefully left out in the open. Just get back over to Strut E, and fast!

Positively, there are no longer any guards on the helipad (though they do remain in Strut E's interior), and the Fatman encounter only begins after disarming this bomb. All in all, due to the purpose of this bomb — to lure in Raiden — it can be safely disarmed with ease.

Strut E (Fatman's Final Bomb)

MGS2 Strut E Bomb Fatman

Aside from those deployed around the arena as a part of the boss fight, this is technically the final bomb that players must find and freeze. Now, I say “find” because it is hidden beneath the backside of the defeated Fatman, meaning that players must drag him aside to reveal the bomb.

There are still no guards atop the helipad. Sure, there is a third timer, but it is extremely generous, only serving to encourage one, final gasp of intensity.

And there we have it, all of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty’s bomb locations.
