Capcom Event Roundup

Capcom Event Roundup

At a recent showcase at Capcom's London offices, we had the chance to see some upcoming games from the gaming juggernaut. After drooling over their display cabinet which housed a much coveted Street Fighter Monopoly, we took a closer look at what Capcom have to offer us in the immediate future.

Resident Evil 4 Ultimate HD Edition

It does exactly what it says on the tin. Available from February 28th, yet another port of the GameCube and PlayStation 2 action shooter classic can be yours, but this is the most polished and complete port. Essentially the same as the Xbox Live and PSN versions now with Steam support. Still, it looks very pretty.

Strider

A 'retelling' of the original Strider story from 1989, Strider is looking good... really good. Keeping the feel of gameplay familiar to series veterans, and increasing the abilities, scope and level design without feeling like too much has changed. As Strider Hiryu, you must slice your way through a neon-lit future Russia to take down nasty piece of work Grandmaster Meio. Fast action and time-taking exploration combine in a thrilling remake of a classic. Available to download on your Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 or PC via Steam from 19th February.

Ultra Street Fighter IV

The third update to hit the Street Fighter IV universe, Ultra Street Fighter IV brings five new characters, six new stages, and 'new modes and features' as yet unannounced. The new stages will be familiar to fans of Street Fighter X Tekken, and three of the five new characters will be familiar to fans of Capcom's side-scrolling brawler Final Fight. All four announced fighters are past known Street Fighter stalwarts, with a new, unannounced fifth to make her Street Fighter debut. Tweaks to gameplay and general fighter balancing have been made too, which promises to hone the already finely-tuned combat. Update to Ultra in June.

Dustforce

A fun game that mixes the infuriation of constant death and addictive platforming of Super Meat Boy with the doubly-infuriating, level-perfecting, just-one-more-go nature of Trials HD. All the while you control one of four people with their own appliance of choice to eliminate the levels of colourful dust. Not an immediately attractive idea for a game, I was surprised by how hooked I got after just five minutes. It's easy for Dustforce to become a proper timesink, so be warned. Dustforce has been out on PC since 2012, but console owners can buy it now for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PS Vita. Recommended.
