CSGO – Gameplay Tips from the Top Esports Stars

The explosive boom in esports has caused a surge in interest around games like League of Legends, Call of Duty and most notably Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. This is the game that has really captured the imagination, not only of those in the gaming community, but in the wider world of esports coverage, sponsorship and even sports betting.

A booming industry

When the top venture capitalists team up with legends like Joe Montana, it is clear that something big is occurring, and this is exactly what has happened in esports. Today’s millennials have grown up around gaming, and it is seen as just another pastime to go with movies, TV or more traditional sports.

Little wonder, then, that it is rapidly becoming as popular with spectators as it is with the gamers themselves, and the peripheral and support industries are getting onboard with rapidity.

Esports betting

Sports betting is big business, particularly in the UK and other parts of Europe. The rise of global casinos that also handle gambling on sporting events has opened up the possibility for those who live in countries that have tighter gambling restrictions, for example the USA, to join in the fun.

Esports betting is a natural progression for many of these sites, and their focus is firmly fixed on the game of CSGO. Gamerbetz is a site that specializes in esports match betting tips, and provides some useful guidance for those who are new to either the game or to the broader subject of esports betting. As far as CSGO is concerned, there are a variety of gambling options, from betting on the outright winner to side bets on the pistol round winner and other specials.

A wealth of tips

One of the most interesting side effects of CSGO becoming such a popular eSport is that there are more hints and tips around than you have ever seen in the history of gaming. This makes sense. Just take a look at how many books there are on how to improve your golf swing or serve a tennis ball like Roger Federer. As soon as a discipline has the tag of “sport” appended to it, the experts start appearing from every direction to publish books and guidance notes.

A case in point is Spencer Martin, or Hiko, as he is known. Arguably the first esports superstar, Hiko is to CSGO as Joe Montana is to NFL. And coincidentally enough, Montana himself is a big name behind the scenes in esports.

The Hiko Challenge

Believe it or not, Hiko has created what can best be described as a training routine for CSGO. The routine should take around 90 minutes to complete, but as your technique improves, you will complete it faster. Ready? Here goes:

  • 100 AK kills – spraying
  • 100 M4 kills – spraying
  • 100 AK kills – tapping

If you are playing on a pistol only server, there is a routine for you, too:

  • 100 USP or P2000 kills
  • 100 Glock kills

Hiko might be the most famous, but he is not the only CSGO star to offer a practice routine for those keen to hone their skills.

Tips from Zero

Patrik Žúdel, or Zero to those in the know, is rapidly becoming Slovakia's most famous sports star. A keen user of reddit, he has also published a series of tips for his fans to improve their gameplay, relating to the three important aspects of tracking, snap aiming and game control.

  • Tracking – Zero recommends heading into a deathmatch armed with a pistol and keeping some distance between yourself and your enemy. He suggests using this method to simply track them for longer, perhaps 30 minutes at a time, to develop your skills. By using the pistol, you are more conscious of how many bullets you use, and will make each one count.
  • Snap aim – for this exercise, Zero recommends the Aim Botz map. Take a two tap burst at the head of one of the bots. If you miss, snap to the other, and then snap back to the first. Your aim and control will improve at a remarkable rate.
  • Spray control – to use Zero’s phrase, head into deathmatch and “spray your heart out.” Work on mastering the spray transfers, by concentrating around seven or eight bullets on the first target, then moving to the next.

It’s all in the aim

With a game like CSGO, there is plenty to think about in terms of strategy and tactics. The last thing you need is to be worrying about your aim and control. It needs to be as natural as that Tiger Woods Swing or the Tom Brady arm, and with the advice of esports very own versions of Tiger and Tom, you stand a great chance of improving your technique and shooting like a pro. Good luck!
