.hack Fans Celebrate Dot Hack Day with Cosplay, Fan Art, and a Fanmade Translation Patch

With its 20th anniversary coming up in 2022, the .hack (also known as Dot Hack) fanbase is possibly more lively than ever, proven by this year’s Dot Hack Day. Dot Hack Day was created on 9th August 2008 after CyberConnect2 realised the numbers eight and nine can be read in Japanese as “ha” and “ku.”

Being made by CyberConnect2, Dot Hack Day is about as official as a fandom holiday can get, and because of that .hack fans always showcase some amazing works on the day. To celebrate the day and the .hack franchise itself, here are some of those creations!

Along with these great fanworks came the announcement of a fanmade English translation patch for .hack//Versus, a fighting game featuring characters from previous .hack titles that was released alongside .hack//The Movie (also known as .hack//Beyond The World). The patch, made by Twitter users @RyudoGaming, @Falions_, @Custat, and @Phantom_Saber, will be released on 1st September during a livestream hosted by the creators.

All gameplay footage was recorded by @Phantom_Saber on Twitter.

And last but certainly not least, my younger sister Katie (who shares a deep love for the .hack franchise with me) made this awesome Haseo and Tri-Edge painting based on art from the game.
