Scream Fortress: 2013 Event

Scream Fortress: 2013 Event

It’s here, ladies and gentlemen. The time where we abandon all social life and contact with the place called ‘real life’. The 5th annual Scream Fortress is (finally) here.

Before I inform you about this year’s event, how about a quick recap of all the previous events of epicness?

It all started in 2009 with some very minor changes. They introduced the harvest map, and the Ghastly Gibus, and of course, the ghost. Then 2010, and all the big stuff happened. Mann Manor, Horseless Headless Horsemann, Saxton Hale Mask and Ghastlier Gibus. 2011 saw the rise (and fall) of MONOCULUS, The Bombinomicon, and the Ghastlierest Gibus. 2012 saw the revenge of Merasmus the Wizard, the Skull Island Topper and the Ghostly Gibus.

Now, we’re in 2013. The new event is here. And it’s awesome.

Long story short, two former members of Mann. Co, REDmond and BLUtarch, have died. They also had a fall-out and want to send each other to hell. Literally. That’s where you come in. The map is hightower, except all Halloweeny. The bombs are now the bodies of Blutarch and Redmond.

One of the major add-ons is the spells. These drop whenever a player dies, or sometimes the bodies of Redmond and Blutarch can occasionally spew one out when getting pushed. These spells can cause all sorts of mischief, such as turning yourself invisible, throwing bats that chase the enemy, summoning a thunderstorm or even a ghostly apparition of MONOCULUS to attack the opposing team.

Upon successfully delivering Blutarch or Redmond to their final demise, the surviving brother will teleport all players to hell, where they must reach the beloved Bombinomicon to escape, and this is where my first niggle with the event comes. The winning team isn’t whoever kills the opposing brother, it’s whoever escapes hell first, making the majority of a match in this map completely pointless.

My second niggle is that there isn’t actually a proper boss. There’s the Skeleton King, but his spawn is infrequent and he is easy to kill, and is more of a mini-boss than anything else. Other than that, and the winning system though, the new Halloween event is absolutely amazing and you should all stop reading this and go play it. Now.
