The Classic RPGs Will Revive on Consoles: Neverwinter Nights, Baldur’s Gate & More AD

The Classic RPGs Will Revive on Consoles: Neverwinter Nights, Baldur’s Gate & More

When we were young, RPG enthusiasts were divided into two main categories, Diablo enthusiasts and hardcore Baldur's Gate fans. The latter were more pompous, due to the fact that the entire RPG portfolio of BioWare followed, with surgical precision, the Dungeons & Dragons format.

As time went by, this type of game has considerably decreased in popularity. Most gamers nowadays prefer Fortnite, while the RPG concept is mainly perceived as Fallout or, best case scenario, The Witcher. The Aussie portion of fans, once representing a vast majority of the game’s player base, have grown out of it turning to mode modern activities, such as playing online Casino real money Australia games. But there are many out there that still think about the good old days of Bioware and are melancholic about its greatest releases. If you’re one of them and you've dreamed of a revival of past Role-Playing Games traditions, you'll be glad to learn that some of the classic titles are soon to return, optimized for modern consoles like the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One.

Naturally, all of these games will go through a visual reinventing process, courtesy of the advanced game rendering technologies of the present, but the actual experience and the authentic ‘feel’ of each product will remain unchanged. This unexpected revival will be possible thanks to a partnership recently signed between Skybound Games and Beamdog. The contract presumes to optimisation for PlayStation and Xbox of the cult-classic RPG titles Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate: Siege of Dragonspear, Baldur's Gate II, Icewind Dale, Neverwinter Nights and Planescape: Torment.

The production for each of these titles has already begun and is set to reach the consoles in a couple of months, without however, having a precise launch date announced. It’s also currently unclear whether they will end up on Nintendo Switch, or will simply be limited to Sony and Microsoft consoles. Even under these circumstances, this is great news for classic RPG nostalgic players, news that should not be neglected. One thing that is known for sure is that all of them will be launched before the end of the year, which means that the final dates are to be announced in a fairly short period of time.

This is in fact the second great news that hardcore RPG fans received, after Baldur’s Gate was optimized for mobile in 2018, under the Siege of Dragonspear format. For only £9.49, players can get this version from the App Store & Play store, but also have available the classic Baldur’s Gate and Baldur’s Gate II versions. Compared to the first two titles, Siege of Dragonspear brings a completely new story to the table, one that makes the connection between the I and II version of the game. We’re talking at least 30 hours of gameplay with an adventure adhering to the Dungeons & Dragons rules. The story unfolds right after Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition’s final stage, returning the players to the Forgotten Realms, now in a serious crisis. The game is available on iPad and iPhone and has no in-app purchases at all. Needless to say, this version is also available on Android, for the same price, in the Play Store.

Baldur's Gate: Siege of Dragonspear also brings over 100 new items, a new multiplayer mode and a new character class, the shaman. It also offers different levels of difficulty, so that it can be played by all gamers with ease. Recent rumors have surfaced in relation to a possible green light for a third installment of the Baldur’s Gate series, but so far they are far from an official confirmation from Beamdog and remain nothing more than a mild insinuation. In all fairness, the process of bringing existing titles to the modern consoles’ platform is a huge task that will require all of the companies’ efforts and attention.

The press release confirming the contract between the two companies attests to this as well. In addition, E3 is coming in close, set to take place from 11th to 14th of June, and this will most likely be the time when the first trailer along with some other news on the subject will be made.
