Time to Try; Dirty Bomb

Bouncing around from wall to wall, firing wildly with an assortment of weapons as the world turns into a ball of flames as Skyhammer calls in the thunder! Charming and entertaining! … did I mentioned the Revifle?

Dirty Bomb is most certainly, in my opinion, the best free to play FPS game on the market currently. With an average player count of around 2,130 players within the last thirty days of writing this article. Whilst this may not sound like a lot, it is worth taking into consideration that as a free-to-play game that has been out since June 1, 2015, it is most certainly still going strong. With a “mostly positive” on Steam and as mentioned before, being entirely free? It is most certainly worth a pick up!

So what makes this game so great for me? Well, for starters the mechanics of the game are not that hard to learn. No aim-training is required for you to be able to hit at least a few of your shots on target and practice does still make perfect. With roughly 24 hours into the game myself, I would like to say I am a far superior shot than someone that has only just picked up the title or isn’t used to FPS games.

Another feature of the game that I just can’t help but love is the incredibly British sense of humour. Swarmy comments coupled with a thick British/Scottish/Russian accent can only help make me smile as I play the game! The addition of character-specific “taunts” that you can access through the quick-talk menu is fantastic! For instance; Stoker, the molotov wielding bald British chap, will make the comment “You’re really trying to get up in my grill.” Through a radio, ensuring that both teams can hear this somewhat sarcastic taunt. Comments about BBQs are also fairly frequent within his unique taunts. Another interesting character is Sparks, a rather entertaining Russian woman with the ability to revive people from long range with her chargeable “Revifle.” Which, I can tell you from first hand experience, feels great to kill someone with.

On a similar topic, the fact that the game doesn’t take itself too seriously is fantastic. Often, in other games, I find myself in the mindset of “I have to win!”, but with Dirty Bomb? Whilst winning is certainly a bonus, playing the game is still incredibly enjoyable and one of the greatest experiences of these last few months for me.

All games need to make money and the business model for Dirty Bomb is incredibly consumer friendly. There isn’t much that someone can’t buy with earnt in game credits, and people can only spend cold-hard cash on these products as well. There are no bonuses to spending real money, sure you might buy a credit booster or two but that doesn’t give you an edge over your opponents! You can buy a merc with both earnt and real money, allowing yourself the option to play them whenever you want rather than waiting for rotation.

With plenty of new updates coming soon? Now is the best time to give the game a go! It won’t put you out of pocket to just give it a try.
