Trust GXT 255 Quick Charge Stand for PlayStation 5 Review

Trust GXT 255 Quick Charge Stand for PlayStation 5 Review

Charging your controller via USB straight from the PlayStation 5 is a simple way to refill your batteries. The downside is that the standard DualSense charging wire isn’t that long and can take a good few hours to reach 100%. With Trust’s GXT 255 Quick Charge Stand, the aim is to get you back into the game sooner rather than later!

The box contains the charger as well as a USB-A to C cable and is ready to go as soon as it’s connected to any active USB port. The DualSense is easily placed on top of the dock and sits comfortably once connected to the charging prongs. The anti-slip pad at the bottom of the GXT 255 also prevents it from moving around when placed on a surface, so any accidental bumps won’t result in the controller disconnecting.

Sat snugly next to the PS5, its sleek, minimalistic design almost makes it look like the console's younger sibling. Granted, I’m not exactly a fan of Sony’s design when it comes to their latest device, but the GXT 255’s look complements it well.

With a DualSense connected, the LED light at the bottom of the stand changes from red when the controller is charging, to blue once it’s finished. The LED bar also functions when the stand isn’t in use, should you prefer to light up your room a little bit. There are quite a few options here, and not just the choice of colours! Speaking of, you’ve got red, green, blue, yellow, pale blue, purple, and white as your solid blocks of colour, as well as a pulsing light that cycles through each one. They can be changed by double pressing the button underneath the stand, or turned off by holding it instead. Should you want a little more flair, then tapping the button alternates between four modes: a solid bar of colour, sweeping from left to right, then again in the opposite direction, and fading in and out. None of these will be present when a controller is connected, but if you’re planning on keeping this plugged in at all times, it’s a simple way to add a bit of style to your setup.

Now, the most important part: how well does it charge? If left in rest mode, my PS5 typically takes around three hours to get a DualSense from flat to fully charged. When timing the GXT 255, a full charge took around two and a half hours, which is a noticeable improvement, albeit not a huge time saver. The downside is that you obviously can’t continue playing as you could if using a standard cable. But if you’re setting your PS5 in rest mode for a while, this is an accessory that does that job whilst matching the console’s aesthetics.

In summary, the Trust GXT 255 Quick Charge Stand does exactly what it sets out to do, but with a little extra flashiness. For the relatively low price of around £19.99, you can’t really go wrong if you’re looking for a dedicated DualSense charger that isn’t an eyesore.

Aesthetically pleasing when placed next to a PlayStation 5, the Trust GXT 255 not only charges your DualSense quicker, but looks good whilst doing so.
