Age of Conan's Onslaught Update, Inspired by a Classic 'Conan' Story

It's been over a year since the last content update for long-running MMO Age of Conan: Unchained. Now, though, players will once again be donning their loincloths and sharpening their battleaxes because the Onslaught update is here, and one of the most significant additions the 12-year old game has seen in quite some time.

Check out the launch trailer above and click here for more details.

Based on the events of Robert E. Howard's 1933 short story, Black Colossus, the update sees players teaming up to face mad sorcerer Thurga Khotan and his dangerous horde of minions. Failure could mean dire consequences for all, but victory will bring glory, honour and—of course—exclusive loot.

Players can access the Onslaught raid by talking to Oracle Vateesa in Old Tarantia and then launching it via the in-game 'Raid' menu. Each wave of the raid increases with difficulty, bringing with it all-new and increasingly dangerous foes:

  • Ancient Kuthcheman Guardians - Sluggish but resistant to spells and crowd-control effects.
  • Ancient Kuthcheman Witches - Spellcasters that cripple with curses from a long range.
  • Mana Hungerers - A cat-like monstrosity that can drain a magic user's mana pool.
  • Concubines of Khotan - Sorceresses that harness the power of storm magic.
  • Heralds of Khotan - Richly adorned guards of Thurga Khotan who empower nearby enemies with various buffs.
  • Excavators of Souls - Necromancers who summon exploding "bone and rage" abominations from the ground itself.

Facing Onslaught's challenges will reward players with Mythical Relics. These can be traded with a new vendor located at Old Tarantia for brand new weapons, Onslaught-exclusive Gems, Onslaught potions or Gem Pouches.

The Onslaught update is out now for Age of Conan: Unchained.
