All About Goblin Cleanup's New Rune System!

All About Goblin Cleanup's New Rune System!

Recently, the team behind the co-op (and solo) cleaning title Goblin Cleanup opened up about a small change they've made to the 2026 roadmap. The title, which is being developed by Crisalu Games and published by Team17, is available on Steam's Early Access!

The change made to the roadmap is simple: the spring update was split into two; this had to be done due to the boss taking longer than the rest of the content to finish, leading to the idea of releasing it as two different updates. The first one brings Mimic customisation, Kickstarter cosmetics, and the new Rune system! This will give the boss some time to "cook".

For those wondering what the new system is, let's dive into what the Runes are and what they add to the gameplay!

These new items, called Runes, can be acquired by cleaning levels and add various stat modifiers. Depending on the completion of each level, players will get to choose from a pool: at 50% level completion, they'll have one Rune to choose from; at 75%, they can choose from two; and at 100%, there will be three options to choose from.

In total, there are 15, and each one offers different perks and downsides. As an example, there's Hot Feet, which will offer 20% Sprint Speed and Jump Height but reduce the Walk Speed by 50%. If you'd like to check all of the ones revealed, you can find more information in the latest Steam post!

Each Rune has five uses (which deplete with each level they're taken to), and players can choose up to three of them to take with them at a time. This offers the ability to mix and match to change up their build!

The unlocked Runes can be found at the new window in the Hub Area, where players will meet a shy Black Mage who will lend them a hand with it. There, they can prepare the build they'll take to the next cleaning level!

Alongside this new Rune system, players can look forward to the Kickstarter backer–designed cosmetics, which we get a sneak peek of in the Steam post linked above, and the Mimic customisation.

Goblin Cleanup is available on Steam's Early Access right now, and the Runed It! update is available, too.
