Coromon Gets Surprise Remaster Update (Plus Celebratory Discount)!

Coromon Gets Surprise Remaster Update (Plus Celebratory Discount)!

Developed by TRAGsoft and published by indie.io, Coromon is a creature collector that released back in 2022 and has garnered a positive reception from gamers all over because it introduces a lot of mechanics that Pokémon fans have wanted, such as an integrated Nuzlocke mode.

In a recent Steam post about the major update, the team opened with:

A remaster… already?

Yeah, we know, it’s only been four years.

But here’s the thing: over those four years, everything behind Coromon has evolved. Our tools, our systems, our understanding of what makes the game feel great.

And once we saw how far things had come, especially through developing Coromon: Rogue Planet, we couldn’t ignore it.

We had to bring that evolution back to Velua as well!

For those who might not know, Coromon: Rogue Planet is an upcoming title by the team (also published by indie.io) that adds a roguelike twist to the game! It seems what they've been working on has taught them a lot and inspired some changes in the original release.

TRAGsoft goes on to explain how what they've done to Coromon isn't just a visual upgrade (although it does have that, too): the entire experience, from UI changes to full rework, has been affected. So, let's unpack everything that's new!

We have to begin everything at the foundation, which is the engine, which has received major upgrades because of Coromon: Rogue Planet. Thanks to this, the following has been changed or added:

  • Coromon can now run at a higher resolution, which makes it work better on larger displays (like monitors).
  • Noticeably smoother gameplay, thanks to the frame pacing, which was rewritten.
  • The mouse and touchpad navigation has been improved through hover support.
  • More keyboard layouts are supported now, such as AZERTY.
  • Native text input will be available whenever typing is needed.

The new engine capabilities also affected the game's UI, which has been rebuilt from the ground up to make it more informational and practical. The many quality-of-life changes added across the game can be seen in the battle UI. Now, all actions are easily accessible and visible, including quick access to Spinners and Cakes.

  • Elements can scale to show more information.
  • A new UI theme.
  • Added button tooltips for quicker navigation.
  • Quick item suggestions during battle and in the squad screen.
  • Optimised to require fewer inputs.

To make Coromon's gameplay more adjustable and flexible, the team has added that the creatures can relearn their level-up moves via Skill Flashes. For a smoother transition between the two games, Crimsonite Coromon and environments have been redesigned to align the two experiences visually and offer continuity.

Among the many changes and additions, quality-of-life updates are aplenty. While I'll be cutting them down so the piece doesn't go on too long, players can expect helpful changes, such as HP bar colours changing based on percentage, the ability to rename creatures from the storage, and reworked encounter zones to make them feel more diverse.

The end of the post by letting players know that this is all only for now, as there are more updates planned in the future:

  • More QoLs.
  • New Coromon skins.
  • More side quests.
  • A catchable Fusebox.
  • Custom difficulty for puzzles.
  • And more.

Coromon's changes are available now, and at no additional cost, as it's a major update! Keep an eye out for the future ones. The game is currently at a steep 75% discount until the 26th of March!
