Details of Jason Voorhees in Dead by Daylight

Revealed at the end of a 13 hours livestream, the original undead slasher, Jason Voorhees, is coming to Dead by Daylight

The addition of the machete-wielding figure has been a highly requested feature by the player base since the game debuted in 2016, and the 10th anniversary just happened to be when they could make it happen.

“There was never a question that our 10 th Anniversary Chapter couldn’t just be big – it needed to be something really special. When we started to see a path to finally making this partnership a reality for our 10th, we knew then the perfect Jason moment had come. We’re just thrilled the stars aligned and we were able to work with the great folks at Jason Universe to deliver this for our players on such a major milestone for Dead by Daylight.”

- Dave Richard, Senior Creative Director

Jason’s gameplay mechanics are divided into two primary components. The first is Omnipresent Evil, a stealth-based ability designed to allow the character to move unseen across the map. When activated, Jason vanishes entirely and gains increased movement speed, leaving no visual clues for the Survivors to track his location. During this invisible state, Jason can follow his targets using faint visual indicators such as scratch marks. To reappear, Jason must target specific environmental points, including pallets, vault locations, and breakable walls. This sudden reappearance destroys the nearby breakable obstacles and causes any Survivors in the immediate vicinity to scream, much like in the movies.

The second component of his power is Improvised Carnage, which allows Jason to utilise "broken" environmental items as ranged weapons. Containers filled with makeshift projectiles, including fragments of lockers, broken generator parts, and shattered hooks, are distributed throughout the map. Jason can collect and throw these items to inflict damage. Successfully hitting a Survivor with a projectile will stagger them. Additionally, if an injured Survivor is struck while positioned near a wall, they become pinned in place, allowing Jason to grab them.

Alongside the gameplay additions, the update introduces the Jason Collection, which features a variety of cosmetic outfits. The default outfit is based on the design by horror creator Greg Nicotero, featuring the well-known 13-holed hockey mask, a machete, and weathered clothing.

Jason will enter The Fog on 16th of June 2026. Dead by Daylight is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.
