Duck Hunt Joins the Battle

Duck Hunt Joins the Battle

Before the official release of Super Smash Bros., we all know of the leaked pictures that were floating around the internet. With all the false info that came with these leaks, it was hard to tell what to believe and what not to believe.  I remember the first time I saw the Duck Hunt Dog in the character selection screen in a leaked photo and thought to myself, “sure, I’ll eat my shorts if that happens” I rolled my eyes and continued to scan for more info on the soon to be released game. You could not understand the amount of joy I had when the 3DS demo was released and it was confirmed that the Duck Hunt Dou had entered the battle. I raced to find more info on what could be my new favorite character to play. Well you won’t have to go sniffing around the internet for much longer, because last nights Nintendo Direct announced, and debuted, it’s first Duck Hunt Dou footage in a Trailer.

The trailer begins with a blast from the past as you see your favorite canine companion giggling on screen just as your missed the infamous blue duck. However, after a visit from other NES favorites, the dou finds themselves transforming into beautiful HD right on in front of your eyes. In this trailer Nintendo gives us a look into exactly what we should expect from the Dog and Duck dou. You can immediately tell through the use of whimsical music and taunt animations, that this pair are going to be one of the most entertaining characters to play in Super Smash Bros.

The different skins that you can receive to use with the Duck Hunt Dou, represent different dog breeds, this was such a creative thing to see and to my surprise even one skin that transforms them into a Banjo Kazooie look alike. Made up of mostly long distance attacks, the Duck Hunt Dou will be a character that you will want to master your evasion moves with. Getting out of close encounter scraps might be deemed difficult, though you do have a few grabs, once you are far enough away dodging and throwing your attacks out are going to be your keys to victory! Shinonome Gaming, or SHI-Gaming for short, is a group of Japanese streamers and tournament organizers who have already started making a tier list for Super Smash Bros. As of right now the Duck Hunt Dou are being scored as a B ranking character. This gives hope to any of you that might want to pick up this cooky pair and start “maining” them. There might be a real chance that he could become competitive in the future.

Unfortunately as of right now the two companions are not part of the 12 Amiibos that are coming out this month, and neither are they schedule as the 6 to come out in spring of 2015. However Nintendo assured their fans that in the next year, expect a surprising amount of Amiibos to be announced, so its only a waiting game for now. The Duck Hunt Dou do not initially come as part of your beginning character list, but rather they are unlocked in one of two ways, either by completing 110 Smash matches (offline or online) or by completing Classic using 8 different characters (Any intensity level). Well thats all the info we have on this goofy pair, for more you will need to pick up a copy of Super Smash Bros. on the 3DS or pre-order on the Wii U. Keep fighting the good fight and happy hunting!
