ELDEN RING Movie Announces Production and Theatre Release

ELDEN RING Movie Announces Production and Theatre Release

For a while now, players have been privy to the upcoming launch of a movie based on ELDEN RING. It's no surprise, as one of 2022's biggest launches became the biggest soulslike to ever do it, becoming FromSoftware's magnum opus to date.

Just last year, the ELDEN RING sales report showed that the title had sold millions in copies — but not just in the single digits, with the base title alone selling roughly 30 million copies at the time. The conversion rate to the sequel, ELDEN RING Shadow of the Erdtree, was astonishingly high as well, having sold 10 million copies on its own.

So, it was no surprise that FromSoftware would be featured on the big screen for a new industry to enjoy, though it wasn't the team's only plan to adapt a title of theirs, with Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice also slated to get an anime adaptation. FromSoftware's homely post-apocalyptic worlds are alluring, and they extend well past just the videogame industry.

The ELDEN RING movie will be written and directed by Alex Garland, who was the writer for various editions of Devil May Cry, and his most recent works include 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, 28 Years Later, and Warfare. It's being filmed for IMAX, with production beginning this spring.

Here's the full cast:

  • Kit Connor (Warfare, Heartstopper)
  • Ben Whishaw (Skyfall, Paddington)
  • Cailee Spaeny (Alien: Romulus, Civil War)
  • Tom Burke (Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, Black Bag)
  • Havana Rose Liu (Bottoms)
  • Sonoya Mizuno (Ex Machina)
  • Jonathan Pryce (The Two Popes)
  • Ruby Cruz (Willow, Bottoms)
  • Nick Offerman (The Last of Us)
  • John Hodgkinson
  • Jefferson Hall
  • Emma Laird
  • Peter Serafinowicz.

Finally, the film is set to release on the 3rd of March 2028.
