EVERSPACE 2 Early Access Delayed Due to Cyberpunk 2077

The Early Access release of ROCKFISH Games' upcoming open world galactic RPG-shooter, EVERSPACE 2, has been delayed from December 2020 to January 2021 in a direct response to the recent delay of Cyberpunk 2077's release into December.

Announced in the developer's 22nd Kickstarter backer update and further explained on the same day during a developer livestream (found above), the delay comes as an attempt to avoid being overshadowed by the colossal levels of media coverage Cyberpunk will undoubtedly receive upon its December release. Furthermore, as the update suggests, there's "quite a bit of audience overlap" between EVERSPACE 2 and Cyberpunk. Clearly, ROCKFISH Games doesn't fancy its chances at the thought of going toe-to-toe with CD Projekt Red; frankly, we're hard pressed to think of a studio that would.

In the livestream, ROCKFISH Games' Community Ambassador Erik Schrader elaborates: "We want to make sure we have presence"..."We don't want to be overshadowed by the bajillion people who are playing Cyberpunk. That's what it really comes down to".

We certainly can't argue with that, especially considering how, as a make-good, the studio plans to send out closed beta keys to all eligible backers on the 2nd November. The closed beta is already in progress, but rather than a select few having access to it, now all eligible Kickstarter backers will be able to get in on the action.

EVERSPACE 2 will launch on Steam Early Access in January 2021.
