Everything You Need to Know About Shyvana, the Half-Dragon — Overview
League of Legends' Shyvana has been on the waiting list for a rework for quite some time, now, and the team has finally gotten around to reworking the Half-Dragon! Her highly anticipated update has now been announced, coming in 2026 Season 1, Act 1: For Demacia, as she'll be replacing the expected champion launch.
Her kit will remain mostly the same, but due to the nature of her semi-major rework, we're going to be sharing a look at all of her abilities and getting a general overview of the champion.
Which Role is Shyvana?

Shyvana has always been a jungler, and her role will remain the same post-rework. That said, the team is looking to de-emphasise her artillery burst mage build, instead opting to bring her more to bruiser builds.
With this in mind, she'll work both as an AD and AP bruiser, though her AP builds will still be viable. All balancing, however, will be focused on keeping Shyvana's identity as a bruiser first and foremost, giving her a champion identity to stick to.
Scalemail
Passive

Her passive has been shifted — though elements of her previous one, Fury of the Dragonborn, continue with the rework, her new Scalemail is meant to be broader. This will give her more opportunities outside of just the jungle and make her a scaling menace as she progresses later into the game.
Essentially, the way Scalemail works is similar to Smolder (ironically, as they're both dragon champions). Where it differs, however, is that it gets stacks by Shyvana getting takedowns on champions, alongside kills on large minions and large monsters.
Each stack raises her base armor and magic resist, while also strengthening her other abilities. This means that properly scaling it and getting later into the game makes her a bigger threat the longer the match progresses.
Dragon's Descent
R

Next up, we're going to talk about her ultimate, as it is integrated into almost every element of her gameplay. Keeping its previous identity, Dragon's Descent doesn't depend on a passive, but Shyvana's unique Fury bar, which grows as she damages enemies.
Once full, Shyvana can use her ultimate and go into her dragon form, dealing damage below her, causing enemies to flee for a short duration, granting bonus health based on her Scalemail stacks, increasing her attack range and size, and empowering all of her other abilities. This works as her "go" button, making her a small raid boss to fight against whenever she's in her dragon form.
We'll be touching on all of the different abilities and how they interact with her Dragon's Descent in their respective sections.
Emberstrike
Q

Shyvana's Q, Emberstrike, hasn't changed too much. Instead of the double attack that she used to do with Twin Bite (her pre-rework one), Emberstrike empowers her next auto attack to do AoE damage around the primary target. After a short delay, she can cast a second Emberstrike.
Emberstrike's cooldown can be reduced by basic attacking enemies, meaning that the longer the fight drags on, the deadlier Shyvana will be. This is also true for her Dragon's Descent form.
In her Dragon's Descent for, Shyvana instead gets three recasts of Emberstrike, with the final one dealing a burst of True Damage, giving her some tank-killing damage.
Inferno Aegis
W

Her W, Inferno Aegis, grants Shyvana a movement speed buff and a shield that increases based on the number of enemies nearby and her Scalemail stacks. After a short duration, or after a recast, her shield bursts, dealing damage to enemies in the surrounding area.
If Inferno Aegis is cast while in her Dragon's Descent form, her second W cast's damage heals her if it hits enemy champions. This should give her some sustain while in the middle of a bunch of enemies in hectic teamfights, keeping her in a bit longer to possibly cast another instance of Emberstrike.
Molten Burst
E

Her E has seen a major overhaul, making it an overall more enticing ability. In her human form, it remains pretty simple, as her attack deals an AoE blast whenever hitting an enemy champion or at the end of its travel time.
When she enters Dragon's Descent, however, Molten Burst really activates as an ability. When used, the ability deals more damage, travels faster, travels farther, and travels through all enemies, dealing a burst of damage every time the ball of fire comes into contact with an enemy champion or large monster. Molten Burst also leaves a trail of fire in its path, dealing damage over time to foes.
