Final Fantasy XIV Announces Next Expansion with Latest Teaser Trailer

Square Enix recently unveiled a brand-new expansion for its ongoing MMORPG based on the Final Fantasy universe. Released on Steam on the 18th of February 2014, FINAL FANTASY XIV Online has been a prominent competitor in the genre, rivalling even the likes of genre-defining World of Warcraft, which has been established and running for decades.

Now, we've learned about the next upcoming expansion that players will be able to enjoy, as the expansion, titled FINAL FANTASY XIV: Evercold, has been shown off. It was part of the Fan Festival 2026 in Anaheim, as we learned a bit about the Godless Realms Saga story arc that it will begin.

It was shown off with a four-minute teaser trailer (heck of a teaser, if you ask us) that shows off the new story arc that players will be able to experience. After all, Final Fantasy and its MMORPG are known for deep, intricate storylines for players to engage with, and the upcoming expansion will be no different.

Of course, the teaser trailer wasn't everything that was unveiled, as we learned about the upcoming changes that players can expect. Including an overhaul to the Reborn and Evolved modes in terms of combat, there was also information about what Evercold will add.

Here's an overview of the key elements of the expansion:

• Tank and physical ranged DPS as two new jobs.
• Level cap increased from 100 to 110
• New cities to explore, each set in distinctiveareas.
• Various gigantic constructs and monstrous threats for players to face off against.
• New dungeons to experience.
• New allies to encounter.
• New trials to undertake.
• A new raid series for fans of large-scale combat.
• A new Ultimate raid.
• Various PvP updates (unannounced so far)
• And ongoing content updates, including new gear, crafting recipes, changes to the Duty Support System, and other elements.

Evercold is going to shake up the way FINAL FANTASY XIV works in various ways, including a change to Seasons, an update to Armoury so players can enjoy multiple jobs, and better character customisation. This will happen both at the launch of the expansion and updates that follow afterwards.

The FINAL FANTASY XIV: Evercold expansion is set to launch in January 2027.
